A legacy of design and modernism
The hotel’s architecture reflects Grung’s vision: clean lines, abundant light and large windows that purposefully draw the dramatic scenery into every interior space. The original building — once the social hub for Hydro’s engineers — still showcases 1960s design classics and a stunning golden fireplace that anchors the historic lounge. In 2015, a new wing by Tai Grung expanded the vision, creating a seamless experience of past and present, where every room invites the surrounding nature into your stay.
A village rich in history and culture
Set in Nesflaten — a charming hamlet on the northern shores of Rogaland’s largest lake — Energihotellet is part of a living landscape shaped by industry and heritage. The Kilen area, with its distinctive flat‑roofed houses and functionalist style, provides an open‑air museum of architectural heritage to explore. Guided tours of the hydro‑power sites, discussions about brutalist design, and narratives from the local community all deepen your understanding of how this place came to be.
Local flavours and seasonal events
At the heart of the hotel experience is food that celebrates the region. The restaurant focuses on locally sourced ingredients — from trout and char from the lake to lamb and game from nearby hillsides — served with thoughtful pairings and generous views.
Throughout the year, Energihotellet also hosts special events — from folk music concerts and storytelling evenings to intimate gatherings that bring together culture, sound and place. These unique experiences create lasting memories far beyond typical hotel stays.
